About Oyster Mushroom Kit

Do  oyster Mushrooms need light to grow?

Yes! Place your kit at any place with indirect natural sunlight, fluorescent, or incandescent light. Your do not need to keep your lights on at nights for the mushrooms.

How much water do I need to spray?

Mist the openning surface and the inside of the humidity tent at least  twice a day (in the morning and evening) with the spray bottle (included in your box).Please not spray too much water directly to the mushrooms, especially when they are small, or they may become withered.

When to harvest the mushrooms?

The mushrooms should be ready to harvest in approximately 4-7 days after you see the first mushrooms begin to form. When the cap of the largest mushroom in the cluster begins to turn from convex (turning down at the edges) to concave (flattening out or turning up at the edges), pick the whole cluster.

What should I do if I will leave home for a couple of days?

  If you did not open the bag, you can leave the bay in a dark place for a few months. If you already    opened the bag, please use a clear plastic bag to cover the opening side of the kit after spraying.  

My mushroom withered,  what should I do?

In a very few cases you may find that your mushroom withered. Please note that oyster mushrooms grow between 55° F and 85° F, and do not forget to mist. If it happened, just remove all mushrooms from the kit surface, and treat it as a new kit. You will have another flush of mushrooms.

Evenly spray the up-surface of the Shiitake rod until it is all wet but with no water drops. At least twice a day ( in the morning and evening) with the spray mister (included in your box). Too much water may cause contamination. 

Does the shiitake mushrooms need oxygen to grow?

Yes!  A well-ventilated place with fresh air is necessary for shiitake mushrooms to grow. An open place like your kitchen counter is just perfect for you to place the kit.

When to harvest?

The mushrooms should be ready to harvest in approximately 3-7 days after you see the first mushrooms begin to form when Caps still turn down and just start to flatten.

My shiitake rod has green mold, what should I do?

Sometimes when you spray too much water or ventilation is not good, you will have green mold on your shiitake rod. Use a tooth brush and water to wash all the green mold away, and replace the box with a clean one (any size as long as you can put the rod inside). Place your rod in a well-ventilated place, do not spray too much water.
